Mayor Malik D. Evans has announced that Rochester's annual Clean Sweep event is set to take place on Saturday, May 3, 2025. Joining him for the announcement were key figures including Naomi Silver, President and CEO of the Rochester Red Wings, city council members, and neighborhood leaders. Mayor Evans called for volunteers to participate in the city's spring cleanup effort.
"Clean Sweep is a wonderful annual opportunity for Rochesterians to show some spirit and demonstrate their pride in the Flower City through action," stated Mayor Evans. He emphasized the unity and community pride that the event brings as residents come together to beautify neighborhoods. "It’s a spectacular moment when we all come together as one community to beautify neighborhoods across the city. I invite everyone to take part and join me and the thousands of volunteers who turn out each year help us transform our city for the better."
The event is open to a wide range of participants including residents, community groups, businesses, churches, sports teams, and youth groups from across Monroe County. Clean Sweep will commence at 8 a.m. at Innovative Field, located at 1 Morrie Silver Way. Volunteers will be provided with a Clean Sweep t-shirt and a light breakfast as they convene.
Volunteers have the option to join a pre-formed group or be assigned to a project team. City crews will coordinate efforts to remove graffiti, clean properties, repair sidewalks, fill potholes, and plant flowers. Once tasks are completed, volunteers are bussed back to the initial gathering point to enjoy a free lunch and a complimentary ticket to a Red Wings game.
Those interested in participating can register by contacting 311 or the designated phone number for those outside city limits, or via the event's online platform. Participants are reminded to dress appropriately, wearing hard-soled shoes and long pants. Gloves and tools will be provided, though bringing personal tools is encouraged.
High school students participating will have the opportunity to earn participation in government credit through their involvement in Clean Sweep.
Mayor Evans urged the community to take this opportunity to make lasting improvements in their neighborhoods. "I invite everyone to take part and join me and the thousands of volunteers who turn out each year help us transform our city for the better,” he said.
Registration for this year's event can be done by visiting the Clean Sweep event page or by phone.
