The City of Rochester is mourning the loss of a 15-year-old student from the School of the Arts. Mayor Evans expressed his condolences, stating, "I was very sorry to learn about the tragedy involving a 15-year-old Rochester student yesterday. My heart goes out to her family and friends, and community members who were affected."

In response to this incident, Mayor Evans emphasized the importance of seeking help for those in distress. He noted that "the free and confidential 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is available 24/7 with skilled counselors who can listen, understand, provide support, and share resources." Additionally, residents can contact the City's Person In Crisis (PIC) Team by dialing 988.

To support students during this difficult time, the City of Rochester’s Department of Recreation and Human Services has provided counselors for School of the Arts students involved in city programs. This service will continue as needed. The Center for Youth also offers professional social emotional counseling at R-Centers for any youth needing assistance with mental health concerns.

Furthermore, an upcoming forum focusing on mental health and substance abuse will be held at the School of the Arts on Saturday, April 12th from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., targeting ages 12-21. Details regarding registration will be announced soon.

Mayor Evans concluded his statement by urging community solidarity: "As a community, we must come together after tragic moments like this. This incident serves as a reminder to all of us to cherish each other and support each other through difficult times."
