Mayor Malik D. Evans marked the completion of a significant renovation project at Norton Village Park playground with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The nearly year-long project has transformed the playground, making it more accessible and enjoyable for children in the community.

Mayor Evans emphasized the importance of playgrounds in urban infrastructure, stating, "As a father, I will tell you that you can’t underestimate the value of a good playground; and as the Mayor, I will tell you the same thing." He added that such spaces are crucial for children's development and contribute to creating a safe and equitable city. "Investing in the healthy development of our children moves us closer to creating a safe, equitable and prosperous Rochester by inspiring hope and delivering opportunity for everyone."

The renovation included new playsets for different age groups, swings, rubberized surfacing, and curb surrounds. The playground's relocation next to Norton Village Lodge aims to improve visibility and accessibility to nearby picnic areas. The project also introduced new paths and additional shade trees while removing outdated basketball and tennis courts.

The project's budget was nearly $500,000, funded through the U.S. Community Development Block Grant allocated annually to the city. Titan Construction and RAVI Engineering carried out the renovations.
