Free financial wellness workshops planned by Rochester's mayor this Saturday

The Mayor’s Office of Financial Empowerment, in collaboration with the New York State Comptroller’s Office and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, will host free financial wellness workshops on Saturday, Oct. 12. The event is scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. at the RIT Downtown Center for Urban Entrepreneurship located at 40 Franklin St., Downtown.

Mayor Malik D. Evans emphasized the importance of financial education, stating, “Understanding personal finance is vital for building a secure future, and these workshops will provide valuable tools to help families manage their money effectively.” He also expressed gratitude towards Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli and the N.Y. State Society of CPAs for their involvement: “These workshops are a wonderful resource to inspire hope in residents seeking to enhance their financial literacy and build a more prosperous future.”

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli highlighted the significance of financial literacy, saying, “Financial literacy is an important step toward getting a better job, improving one’s quality of life, and attaining economic stability.” He added his support for the initiative alongside Mayor Evans and the New York State Certified Public Accountants: “It’s in everyone’s interest to help New Yorkers strengthen their financial knowledge and understanding.”

Attendees will have access to sessions led by Certified Public Accountants focusing on college savings strategies for children as well as debt management techniques suitable for the holiday season. The schedule includes "Debt Management and Saving for the Holidays" at 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., followed by "Preparing for Your Child’s Future" at 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
