Mayor Malik D. Evans has announced a series of capital investments totaling more than $2.6 million aimed at enhancing Rochester Animal Services (RAS). These investments encompass completed, ongoing, and planned projects.

Completed projects include acquiring new vehicles for community outreach and animal transport, upgrades in exterior lighting, security systems, communication equipment, and various facility enhancements such as a new animal bathing tub and clinic cabinetry.

Ongoing efforts focus on rehabilitating windowsills, upgrading the reception desk, improving HVAC systems, and modernizing kennel drainage systems. Planned future upgrades intend to enhance dog kennels, plumbing, and develop a new dog park on the city’s west side.

Rochester Animal Services invites the community to visit and consider adopting pets. The facility is open for adoptions daily from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at 184 Verona St., Rochester.

Volunteer opportunities are available through the Verona Street Animal Society (VSAS). This non-profit supports RAS with fundraising and resources. Roles include animal care, fostering, outreach, administrative support, and fundraising, with applications open on the VSAS website for those over 18.
