Residents of Rochester are encouraged to participate in a disaster preparation training course on April 25 at the David F. Gantt R-Center. The training aims to equip individuals with the necessary knowledge and resources to effectively respond and recover from natural or manmade disasters.

Mayor Malik D. Evans emphasized the importance of being prepared, stating, "Unfortunately, disaster situations do happen so it’s a good idea to learn what you can do ahead of time to stay safe, protect your loved ones, minimize damage and return to normal as soon as possible." He also expressed gratitude to the New York State Division of Homeland Security for developing the program and urged residents to register for the course.

The Citizen Preparedness Corps training program, established in 2014, provides residents with essential tools and resources to prepare for emergencies and disasters. Led by members of the N.Y. National Guard, the training covers topics such as emergency alert notifications, family emergency planning, and stocking up on supplies.

Each participating family will receive a free N.Y. State Disaster Preparedness Kit containing key items for immediate use post-disaster. Advanced registration is mandatory to attend the course, and interested individuals can register at www.cityofrochester.gov/citizenpreparednesstraining.

He further encouraged all residents to prepare themselves for any potential disasters by enrolling in the training course.
