The City of Rochester is set to host the Roc Murals Day Celebration on Saturday, April 20, 2024, to mark the completion of four new murals in the community. Mayor Malik D. Evans has extended an invitation to the Rochester community to participate in the event, which will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The four murals, funded by $80,000 from the City’s Percent for the Arts Program, are strategically located in neighborhoods that have been significantly impacted by redlining, gun violence, and historical disinvestment. The artwork on these murals serves as a reflection of the community's resilience and creativity.

As part of the celebration, each mural site will host various activities, including artists' discussions about their work, refreshments, and family-friendly events. Attendees will also have the opportunity to engage in a Mural Art Passport book, allowing them to explore and learn about each mural in detail.

The event will kick off with a press conference at the first mural location at 11 a.m., followed by an invitation for community members to visit all the mural sites. The celebration aims to bring the community together to appreciate the power of art in transforming and revitalizing neighborhoods.

Mayor Malik D. Evans emphasized the city's commitment to creating a safe, equitable, and prosperous Rochester for all residents. The administration's dedication to inspiring hope and delivering opportunities aligns with the mission, vision, and values outlined in the "Rochester2034" comprehensive plan.
