The City of Rochester is actively engaged in snow-clearing operations as more snowfall is expected this week. Mayor Malik D. Evans has called on drivers to exercise caution, give snow plows ample space, and adhere to alternate-side parking rules to facilitate efficient street clearing.

Mayor Evans detailed the city's winter weather operations and highlighted citizen responsibilities to ensure safe travel throughout the season. The city’s crews are responsible for plowing major and minor arterial streets, while contractors handle residential areas. Streets are cleared when snow accumulates to 3 inches. Salt is applied to main arterial roads and certain secondary roadways with specific features like schools or bus routes, but generally not on residential streets. Sidewalks are plowed once 4 inches of new snow has fallen, though property owners must clear any remaining snow and ice.

Property owners must keep sidewalks adjacent to their properties free from snow and ice, as moving snow from private property onto public spaces like sidewalks or roads is illegal.
