The Rochester Public Market is set to host the November series of Thursday Thinkers: Insights into Rochester, focusing on holiday meals. The events will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Nov. 7, 14, and 21 at the City of Rochester Public Market Nutrition Education Center located at 280 N. Union St.
Attendees will have the opportunity to enter a drawing for $10 in Public Market Tokens at each event. The Nutrition Education Center is situated in the indoor B Shed.
The schedule for November's Thursday Thinkers includes:
On Nov. 7, "Making the most of your Public Market Shopping Trip" will provide tips for shopping at the market and information about the Public Market Gift Token and Healthy ROC Grocer programs. Leslie Knox, president of the Friends of the Rochester Public Market; Laura Grey, City of Rochester program lead for Healthy ROC Grocer; and Jim Farr, director of the Rochester Public Market are presenting partners.
On Nov. 14, "Shopping at the Foodlink Curbside Market: When, How and Where?" will offer insights into Foodlink’s mobile shopping vehicle designed for areas with limited access to fresh foods. A cooking demonstration featuring healthy holiday appetizers is included. Florence Clemmons, manager of Foodlink’s Curbside Market, along with Foodlink nutrition educators will be presenting.
On Nov. 21, "Cooking a Healthy Thanksgiving Dinner" aims to teach participants how to prepare healthier holiday entrees and side dishes with tastings provided. Jason Stewart, a registered dietitian, is the presenting partner.
Thursday Thinkers is an enrichment series hosted by the City’s Department of Recreation and Human Services (DRHS). Each event includes discussions with representatives from government and community agencies as well as other resources. These events occur on at least two Thursday evenings each month at a City R-Center or recreation facility with different themes covered monthly.
