As the Maplewood Community Library undergoes a major expansion and renovation project, an alternative service location will be available starting July 8, 2024. The temporary facility is situated at the former Holy Rosary church, located at 414 Lexington Ave. It will operate from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays.

Visitors can access an all-ages library collection, computers, a copier, a fax machine, and document scanning services. Regular library programming and summer reading activities will also take place at this site.

“This project is an exciting step forward for the treasured Maplewood Community Library,” said Library Director Patty Uttaro. “We are thrilled to be able to provide a space for local children and families to continue to use library services while these substantial transformations take place.”

The Maplewood Community Library is expected to re-open in the spring of 2026. Renovations include a new addition that will add 2,666 square feet to the facility, featuring expanded spaces for teens, adults, and children. Additional improvements include a new entrance facing Dewey Avenue, new classroom and meeting spaces, updated restrooms, a secure children's outdoor play area, new parking lot lighting, and more.

Community input from staff and library users—including a children's design committee—helped guide the priorities and design for the project.
