Mayor Evans declares Cool Sweep amid high temperature forecasts

In anticipation of forecasted high temperatures, Mayor Malik D. Evans announced today that the City will conduct a Cool Sweep operation from Wednesday, July 3, through Friday, July 5. City R-Centers, pools, Durand Eastman Beach, some library branches, and spray parks and features will be open for extended hours so residents can remain safe and comfortable.

Residents can escape the heat in the City’s air-conditioned R-Centers and libraries or cool off at a City pool, spray park or the Durand Eastman Beach during the following schedules:

R-Centers: 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, unless otherwise noted. All R-Centers will be closed Thursday, July 4, in observance of the Fourth of July holiday.

Rochester Community Sports Complex (RCSC), 460 Oak St. (Open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday)

Spray Parks: 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. daily. While R-Centers will be closed July 4, Spray Parks will remain open.

David F. Gantt R-Center, 700 North St.

Spray Features: Open daily from 9 a.m.to 8:30 p.m., unless otherwise noted.

Fourth and Peck Playground - Corner of Fourth and Peck Streets

Troup Street Park - Troup Street & Van Auker Street (between Reynolds Street & Ford Street)

Swimming Opportunities

Durand Eastman Beach – Lakeshore Blvd., 11 a.m.to 7 p.m.(On July 4th open from noon to 6 p.m.) For daily water conditions and to ensure the beach is open for swimming call Monroe County Beach Information Line at (585)753-5887.The hotline is updated each morning

Genesee Valley Park Pool – Elmwood Avenue – Noon to 8:30 p.m.(On July 4th open from noon to 5p.m.)

Adams Street Pool – Adams Street– Noon to 7p .m.(Closed on Thursday ,July4th )

Trenton & Pamela Jackson Pool–North Clinton Avenue–Noonto7p .m.(Closed on Thursday ,July4th )

City Branch Libraries

On Wednesday ,July3rd when temperatures are projected to reach90°Arnett Lincoln& Winton Branches will offer extended hours until9p .m.All libraries will be closed Thursday ,July4thin observance of Independence Day .
