Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra announces free summer concert series

The City of Rochester and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) will present the “Around the Town” free outdoor concert series throughout July, starting Tuesday, July 9. These concerts aim to provide city residents with an opportunity to enjoy classical music in an outdoor setting.

The neighborhood ensemble shows are scheduled for every Tuesday in July at 6:30 p.m. at various locations around the city:

- July 9: Southeast Neighborhood, Park Avenue Green (Park & Barrington). Rain location: Immanuel Baptist Church, 815 Park Ave.

- July 16: Southwest Neighborhood, Susan B. Anthony Square, 31 Madison St. Rain location: Susan B. Anthony Carriage House rear building, 19 Madison St.

- July 23: Northwest Neighborhood, Maplewood Rose Garden Pavilion, 24 Driving Park Ave. Rain location: Edgerton Stardust Ballroom, 41 Backus St.

- July 30: Northeast Neighborhood, Northeast Quadrant Neighborhood Service Center lawn, 500 Norton St. Rain location: David F. Gantt R-Center, 700 North St.

In addition to these neighborhood ensemble shows, the RPO’s “Under the Stars” full orchestra will perform for free at Parcel 5 (285 E. Main St.) on Friday, July 12. The event will proceed regardless of weather conditions. Gates open at 6 p.m., with an opening performance by the Flower City Pride Band at 6:45 p.m., followed by the RPO taking the stage at 8 p.m. Food trucks will be available for attendees.

Conducted by Jherrard Hardeman, this evening event promises a selection of music from film classics under the night sky.

Neighborhood partners have enhanced this year’s concert series through co-promotion and support. These partners include the Susan B. Anthony Neighborhood Association, Park Avenue Neighbors and Park Avenue Merchants Association, Joseph Avenue Arts and Culture Alliance, and Maplewood Neighborhood Association.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket for seating.
