Mayor Malik D. Evans announced the start of summer schedules and programs at City of Rochester R-Centers and recreation facilities during a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of the newly renovated Humboldt Spray Park.

“Rochester’s R-Centers and recreation facilities and programs offer a wide and creative range of opportunities for children and young people to have fun all summer long while keeping physically active, mentally engaged, and emotionally supported in the presence of caring adults,” said Mayor Evans. “The investments we continue to make in amenities like the Humboldt Spray Park are a tangible representation of our commitment to these services and the children of Rochester. I encourage all parents and caregivers to learn more about these valuable programs and services that can enrich the lives of their children.”

The re-opening of Humboldt Spray Park brings all City splash pads and spray features to full capacity ahead of an anticipated heatwave across the Rochester region this week. Mayor Evans declared a Cool Sweep operation from Monday, June 17 through Friday, June 21. He reminded residents without access to pools or air conditioning to seek relief at spray parks, air-conditioned R-Centers, and libraries. The Genesee Valley Park Pool and Durand Eastman Beach are scheduled to open on June 24; pools at Adams Street R-Center and Trenton & Pamela Jackson R-Center will open on July 1. Breakfast and lunch will be served to registered child members.

Summer recreation programs at City R-Centers span various interests including traditional sports, dance classes, cooking classes, lawn games, board games, outdoor play, and nature enjoyment.
