Irondequoit Town recently issued the following announcement.
The Town of Irondequoit today announced the closure of the Irondequoit Bay State Marine Park due to the commencement of construction on a Lake Ontario Resiliency and Economic Development Initiative (REDI) project. Both the boat launch and the parking lot will be closed throughout the construction process, which is expected to conclude in Spring 2021. Patrons to the park should be advised that there is no turn around location for trucks and trailers on site due to the ongoing construction.
Earlier this year, the Town was awarded over $3 million in REDI funding for the project, which will increase the resiliency for the boat launch by raising the parking lot by roughly two feet. This project will also add new amenities to the area for residents to enjoy, including a new playground, pavilion, ADA accessible fishing pier, and a canoe/kayak launch. Additionally, a new stormwater management pump station will be installed to ensure that flood waters do not back up onto Culver Road and the surrounding neighborhood during high-water events.
The majority of the construction will occur throughout Fall 2020, while the installation of transient docking and the reestablishment of turf is expected to take place in Spring 2021. The Town appreciates the patience of our residents as we work through the process of improving access and amenities along our waterfront.
