Gates Chili Central School District recently issued the following announcement.
Dear Gates Chili Families,
This morning, Gov. Cuomo announced that schools in New York can reopen this fall. He said that every school district in every region is reauthorized to reopen. Under the governor’s announcement, Gates Chili CSD can open as long as our region’s average rate of positive COVID-19 tests is below 5%, a threshold recommended by the World Health Organization.
You may recall, in accordance with current NYSED and NYSDOH guidelines, Gates Chili cannot open fully in person. This means that we will move forward with our hybrid and remote instruction models when we begin school on Sept. 14. You may remember from previous communication that parents/guardians may opt to register their child(ren) under the hybrid instruction model, where they would attend school in person two days per week, or the remote instruction model where they would learn remotely 100% of the time.
Right now, we have a little more than 2,000 responses to our Enrollment Intent Form. If you have not completed a form for your child(ren) yet, please do so by noon on Tuesday, Aug. 11 so that the district may begin finalizing plans for student placement, staff assignments and transportation. Those will be announced by the end of the month.
I know all this information leaves you with many more questions. We thank the hundreds of parents/guardians and students who have already reached out with questions. Please continue to check the FAQ section of the district website at www.gateschili.org/ReopeningFAQ. In addition, we will announce plans for several community forums where families can ask more questions about reopening.
We will continue to monitor the infection rate leading up to the first day of school and stay in constant communication with our families.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding. Gates Chili is a resilient community and we will work together to get through these new challenges.
Go Spartans!
