University of Rochester Medicine announced on Apr. 15 that it is introducing a new unified brand identity, retiring the previous names and logos for UR Medicine and University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC). The change encompasses all academic and clinical programs based at the University’s Health Sciences Campus, as well as its affiliate hospitals, facilities, and programs.

The move aims to simplify the health system’s public identity and reflect its fully integrated approach to healthcare, research, and education. According to the announcement, using one name will “eliminate confusion and make it easier for everyone who benefits from our health system—including patients, families, learners, faculty, and employees—to underscore who we are and what we do.”

The transition is part of a broader brand evolution that began last fall at the University. The statement says this reflects how “our academic health system already works: as one connected enterprise across discovery, learning, and healing.” The organization highlighted that while individual hospitals, schools, institutes, and programs will maintain their distinct identities under the new umbrella brand name—University of Rochester Medicine—the overall mission remains unchanged.

In response to common questions about the rebranding effort included in its announcement materials: “This is a brand alignment that does not change our commitment to high-quality patient care, biomedical research, and health sciences education.” The statement also clarifies that University of Rochester Medicine serves as an umbrella name for all parts of its integrated academic health system.

Looking ahead, members of the community can expect to see updated names and logos gradually appear across websites, social media channels, communications materials over time. According to leadership statements in the release: “One team. One purpose.University of Rochester Medicine reflects the connection between care, discovery, and learning that defines our academic health system—and helps us bring new ideas, new treatments, and new possibilities to the peopleand communities we serve.”
