CHURCHVILLE-CHILI CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT: Message from Superintendent - July 24, 2020

Hs 09

Churchville-Chili Central School District issued the following announcement on July 24.

Dear families,

I hope you and your family are safe and healthy, and are continuing to enjoy the summer season. As we near the end of July, and school districts in our area begin to announce their reopening plans, I want to provide a brief update on where we stand with our reopening plan. Our administrative team met for two full days this week and last night we had our final meeting with our Reopening Advisory Committee. With the assistance of administrators, staff and parents, we were able to determine our next steps in the plan development that encompasses teaching and learning, health and safety, school operations and human resources/staffing.

As we focus upon the development of an instructional model, the following priority principles are being used:

 - Health and safety of all students and staff is paramount

 - Equitable and accessible instruction

 - Maximize in person instruction or synchronous instruction

 - Flexibility to adapt to current status

 - Clear structure and accountability

 - Staff working on campus

Given the input of families and staff from our recent surveys about reopening, along with the advisory committee, it is clear that a hybrid model will provide the greatest health and safety, and equitable and accessible instruction. Given the social distancing requirements, we do not have the facility space or certified staff to offer an in-person model for all students at this time. The hybrid model will consist of a minimum of two days in-person along with two days of remote learning. There will also be a full remote model for those families who are not comfortable sending their children back in a hybrid model. Our reopening plan will focus upon the first ten weeks of the school year. This will allow for adjustment and the potential to increase in-person instruction for the second quarter and beyond.

Next week, the administrative team will meet daily to finalize each aspect of the reopening plan. By July 30, the district will mail information to each family explaining the hybrid model, grouping for in-person instruction, schedule format, transportation, and safety protocols. Included in the mailing you will receive a form to identify your intention to have your child participate in the hybrid model or full remote model. As you may be aware, there are limitations on the number of students who can be transported on a school bus. We will also be requesting information about your family’s need to have district transportation provided. Your family should receive this information during the week of August 2.

Thank you for your patience as we work through this process. Beginning July 31, detailed information about our plan will be posted to the district webpage dedicated to reopening. As a reminder, you can update your eNews preferences here. If you have students in grades 5-12, I encourage you to set up a Parent Portal account for important information about your child’s academic information including courses and schedule.

Sincerely,

Lori Orologio
