Applications are now being accepted for the Rochester Fire Department civil service exam, scheduled for Saturday, June 28, 2025. Prospective candidates must submit their applications online at www.governmentjobs.com/careers/cityofrochester by Tuesday, May 27, 2025. The civil service exam is mandatory for all aspiring Rochester firefighters. Those who achieve top scores will be considered for the upcoming Fire Recruit class or other future opportunities.

Mayor Malik D. Evans encouraged individuals committed to public service to apply: “Our Rochester Firefighters are the first responders our community relies on in the face of fires, car accidents, medical emergencies, and many other critical situations. To those with the same commitment to service, I call you to apply to be part of this respected, hard-working team.”

Rochester Fire Chief Stefano Napolitano expressed pride in his team and called for dedicated individuals to join: “As a firefighter, the challenge ahead you is no match for the team beside you,” he said. “I’m incredibly proud of the men and women of our Fire Department. We’re seeking dedicated, driven, and collaborative individuals to step up and serve alongside them.”

In 2024 alone, the Rochester Fire Department responded to approximately 37,450 requests for service. Starting salaries for firefighters begin at around $54,000 per year and can rise to $95,000 annually within five years. City firefighters also benefit from competitive perks such as free healthcare and a robust pension plan.
