The civil service exam is mandatory for all aspiring Rochester firefighters. Those who achieve top scores will be considered for the upcoming Fire Recruit class or other future opportunities.
Mayor Malik D. In 2024 alone, the Rochester Fire Department responded to approximately 37,450 requests for service. Starting salaries for firefighters begin at around $54,000 per year and can rise to $95,000 annually within five years.
