The City of Rochester will hold a public meeting to discuss designs for a potential Beach House and an update to the Master Plan for Durand Eastman Park. The session is scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at Camp Eastman Kusak Lodge, located at 21 Camp Eastman Way. Participants may also join virtually via Zoom using the link provided by the city.

This meeting offers citizens an opportunity to review beach house design concepts and provide input on usage, activities, and desired amenities. The updated Master Plan will address various aspects of the beach area, including parking facilities, picnic shelter and grill locations, crosswalk and pedestrian improvements, and site programming options. Site improvements to address drainage and erosion are also part of the project.

Durand Eastman Park is situated approximately five miles northeast of downtown Rochester along Lake Ontario’s shores. The land was sold to the city by Dr. Henry Durand and George Eastman and was formally dedicated in 1909. A public beach house constructed in 1919 served citizens until its closure in 1949 due to rising water levels in Lake Ontario.

Following the meeting, online input will be accepted through Wednesday, August 7. For more information about the project background, updates, and presentation materials, visit https://www.cityofrochester.gov/durandeastmanbeachhouse.

For questions or special accommodations, contact project manager Tyler Burke P.E. at (585) 428-7571 or tyler.burke@cityofrochester.gov.
