Mayor Malik D. Evans invites children ages 6-15 to express their visions of peace through art by participating in the 2024 Mayors for Peace Art Competition.
Rochester is a member of Mayors for Peace, a global consortium of 8,200 member cities in 166 countries and regions dedicated to achieving lasting world peace. Each year, Mayors for Peace holds a children’s art competition. Ten art pieces from Rochester will be selected to advance to the International Mayors for Peace Competition in Hiroshima, Japan, where they will compete for the prestigious Mayors for Peace President’s Award.
“Through their art, youth can show us in a profound way how to make the world more peaceful,” said Mayor Malik D. Evans. “I’m proud to have Rochester be a member of the Mayors for Peace Initiative and I look forward to seeing this year’s submissions.”
The children’s artwork will be displayed in the City Hall Link Gallery from October 7 to 25. For more information and to submit artwork by Friday, Sept. 13, visit www.cityofrochester.gov/artforpeace.
The City of Rochester deeply values the visual arts as both an educational and aesthetic experience and recognizes local art as a vital part of the region’s culture. The Link Gallery, established in 1981, is dedicated to promoting the art and cultural heritage of the area.
The Gallery, located at 30 Church Street on the first floor of City Hall in the corridor connecting Building A to Building B, is open to the public Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Link Gallery is free, handicapped accessible, and open to all.
