Federal immigration officials were reportedly present in the Rochester region over the weekend, according to Mayor Evans. However, no information has been provided regarding the outcome of their activities.

Mayor Evans stated, “U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has operated in our region in the past, and does not alert, coordinate with, or involve local governments or law enforcement in their activities.”

The mayor acknowledged the concerns raised by recent discussions on immigration enforcement. He advised refugees and immigrants residing in Greater Rochester to be informed about their rights. “I recognize there is a degree of fear and concern being caused by the current rhetoric around immigration enforcement,” he said.

Mayor Evans assured that the City of Rochester will collaborate with partners at various levels—local, regional, and state—to disseminate information as it becomes available.
